Busy-ness

Life has been pretty busy the last week. Between filling orders, piano lessons, the beginning of homeschooling, company, church stuff, putting up moose meat and turning 15 gallons of Alaskan apples into applesauce I've hardly had time to breathe. I did get the chance to go fabric shopping one day this week and was so excited to find 10 yards of this totally Rockin fabric. I've already sewn it into the reversible pouch sling below but have plans for ring slings and maybe other things as well. As you can see in the photo, autumn is upon us in our area of Alaska. Winter is only a few weeks away now, and we are full of excitement at the idea of sledding, skiing, snowmen and winter fun. I hope your enjoying your autumn!

Pillow Case Dresses

Something I really enjoy doing is taking something meant for the dumpster or thrift store and recycling it into a thing of beauty and function. People have coined this Upcycling. I refer to it as upcylcing, but I also like to use the words reclaimed and vintage whenever it applies. One thing I love to upcycle is vintage pillow cases. I think the pillow case dress is an adorable look, it can be worn alone as a dress and as a shirt along with some leggings, jeans or shorts. I've also turned vintage pillow cases into skirts for grown ups as well. Every once in a while I am inspired to create pillow case dress out of scrap fabric, but find it great fun to take an old pillow case and turn it into something retro, cute and fun. Here are a few of the dresses I have in my etsy shop right now. I have a huge stack in craft closet (1/3 of our walk in closet) for future dresses, skirts and maybe even some sling bags. New Mexican Fabric

Next week I will once again be offering my La Lynda style Mexican ring slings made from gorgeous fabric woven in Mexico. It is the same type of fabric women native to southern Mexico use to wear their babies, rebozo style. I will have 3 fabrics to choose from (as shown in the photos) and will only have 2 of each color available. If you'd like to have one just send me a message and I will let you know when they are available to purchase. I'm hoping my supplier can provide me with more colors sometime in late October.

Woven Mexican Fabric

My fist baby sling was handcrafted for me by my Mother in law. As she was a missionary in Mexico during that time, she found and used the most amazing woven Mexican fabric she found in the local market. So naturally when my sister in law (her first sling was woven Mexican fabric too) and I first began making slings we asked her to buy us some of that gorgeous fabric. Over the years we used this fabric to create over 100 beautiful baby slings. It is by far our most popular fabric.

I sold out of my last shipment last year and have been searching all over the internet trying to find a supplier. I asked my Mother in law if she knew someone that could go buy it for me and she didn't know of anyone (as they are not in Mexico anymore). I was heart broken. She told me I could buy some myself this summer when we were down there. But alas the fabric was not on the route to our destination nor in any market we visited. Heart broken again....

well, last night to my glorious surprise I found a supplier! And now I anxiously await her reply. I am SO excited I can hardly stand it!

Western Otter

This past summer I had the oppurtunity to hang out with my Daddy and Step-Mom at their store in Hico, Texas. I took them 13 totally unique baby slings to sell in their store Western Otter. I feel super honored to be included in the amazing creations offered by super talented artisans (my Daddy included). I'm trying to convince them to list his upcycled/recycled vintage cowboy boots and her cards and clothing at etsy. I think they would do well. I'm super excited to announce I have now surpassed my goal of reaching 100 customers in my etsy shop. Customer #100 got the benefit of my excitement when I sent her 20.00 back as a thank you for being my momentous customer! She picked out a cotton candy thermal wrap and a good choice in my opinion! Stretchy and warm and cozy for the upcoming cool weather season. As of today I am up to customer 102! I'm totally thrilled!
